Volunteers
Volunteers do so much for the YMCA. Last year, with the help of hundreds of community minded adults serving as coaches, over 2000 kids participated in Youth Sports programs ranging from flag football to track to volleyball and basketball. Through generous community support during our annual campaign over 300 kids who wouldn’t have been able to participate otherwise were able to be scholarshiped.

Child Care

Whether your need for child care is large or small,we encourage you to check out the "Jungle", where special care and attention is given to the 3 to 6 year olds. In a state certified environment our staff delights in offering a wide range of developmentally appropriate play opportunities for children. The Jungle is designed with flexibility in mind, for both parents who work in and out of the home; the times that care are offered match beautifully with our Preschool classes and yet also can be utilized to add simplicity to weekly play days.

School Age Child Care

Do you remember what play was like when you were a kid? Games & activities were determined by the kids, adults were around when you needed them and the emphasis was on fun with learning. Experienced and caring staff set up just this type of environment where youth are encouraged to make their own choices within a variety of activities:

Homework time, sports, games, science, nature, crafts, health & wellness

Each program follows specific standards according to YMCA quality guidelines. However, each site is encouraged to develop a schedule and additional activities that are appropriate to that site's particular needs. Reflected in each of these activities and staff are the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Thanks to School District 549C, the YMCA operates in the following schools: Jacksonville, Abe Lincoln, Griffin Creek, Jefferson, Lone Pine, Howard, Hoover, Kennedy, Wilson and Orchard Hill. For schools not listed, your child may be transported to another YMCA location, by district approval through the school's bus system.
