Strong communities
"I like YMCA resident camp because I never feel left out of anything. Also the counselors are cool. Then, all the different kids make it even better. I make new friends every year. My first year, I did not know how to do archery, but they showed me how...there are lots of other activities like capture the flag, canoing and the ropes course. On Friday, all the cabins compete in a relay race. In this relay race there is one special rule. You know what it is? Everybody wins. Unlike the cafeteria at my school, the food is much better. It tastes more like homestyle cooking. I am pretty sure, speaking from experience, most kids do not like school food. I hope the camp never changes. YMCA rules!" Kylie Millhouse, age 11

Health & Fitness

YMCAs have led community-based health and fitness for more than a century. Research continues to support the approach to health that YMCAs have taken since 1891 when Luther Gulick proposed the red YMCA triangle as a symbol of a persons "essential unity – spirit, mind and body – each being a necessary and eternal part of man." Participation in Y health and fitness programs offer opportunities for friendship and community, a sense of well-being, self-confidence, and improved mental abilities and cognition, not to mention the obvious benefits of healthy hearts, lungs, bones and muscles.

The Rogue Valley Family YMCA believes exercise and health education are important for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. The government agrees that all people can benefit from good health and wellness programs.

Helping you stay healthy and physically fit is a very important part of our mission at the Rogue Valley Family YMCA. We offer several ways to pursue that goal.

We feature a wide array of state of the art strength-training and aerobic machines, along with free weights. Our staff will assist you in the proper use of the machines and will help you put together a custom-tailored fitness program.

We also feature a variety of fitness classes for all ages and fitness levels. Some of the classes available are:
  • Pilates- Exercises facilitating total body conditioning, correct alignment and biomechanics, emphasizing conscious breathing and focused movement through the spirit, mind, and body connection based on the work of Joseph Pilates.
  • Core Conditioning- Use the Stability Ball and other fitness modalities to strengthen your stabilizing muscles, the abdominals, lower back muscles, and obliques. Includes toning exercises.
  • Movement and Music- Your preschool age child will play, dance, move, create and explore. This class will introduce the basic elements of music and give your child the opportunity to make music on their own. Parents please join in the fun.
  • Restorative Yoga- Restorative yoga is a gentle style of yoga ideal for seniors, persons recovering from injury and athletes needing increased mobility. Using bolsters, blankets and other supportive props, we will rest on poses that are designed to free up stiff joints and muscles, enhance natural balance and healing in the body, and create deep myofacial releasing, gently and safely. This is a fun, nurturing and deeply supportive style of yoga.
